Milk Thistle

Beneficial For :

Why you need it?

Native to the Mediterranean, Milk thistle has fruits that appear to contain properties that may protect against hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver.

In Germany, Milk thistle has been used extensively for liver diseases and jaundice.

Functions: Hepatoprotective (i.e. protects the liver).

Parts Used:

Seeds and aerial parts.

Constituents:

Flavolignans; the mixture of which is known as 'silymarin'.

Precautions

GRAS - Generally recognised as safe. No adverse reactions, side effects or overdose symptoms expected when taken within the recommended amounts.

  • Milk thistle increases bile flow and secretion which can result in loose stools
  • The safety or otherwise of the use of Milk Thistle during pregnancy or lactation has not been determined
